When The Lion on Stoke Newington Church Street closed for a refit last October, no-0ne anticipated it would become such a drawn-out – and, for the owners, painful – affair. But, after a disastrous plumbing leak that led to months of recriminations, the bar has now reopened. So, the question is, was it worth the wait?
While the opening of the refurbished Red Lion seems mired in the aftermath of the pre-Christmas plumbing disaster, another Stoke Newington institution has undergone a rather swifter transformation. The establishment most recently known as Stokie’s reopened this week – with a lot less spit and considerably less sawdust than the previous incarnation.
